OLLU community invited to join Candlelight Choir

The OLLU community is invited to take part in the Candlelight Choir. All are welcome – faculty, staff, students, alumni, CDPs, and Board Members – as we prepare for the 88th annual Candlelight, an OLLU Signature Event that will be held in Sacred Heart Chapel on Saturday Dec. 2 at 6:30 p.m. followed by caroling in the Moye Rotunda.

Rehearsals will be held in Sacred Heart Chapel on Nov. 30 at 6 p.m. and Dec. 2 at 5 p.m. Sign up through this link: https://forms.office.com/r/9dZQMPbdsp

Candlelight will feature an advent prayer service, caroling, and a reception with hot chocolate, cookies and tamales. You won’t want to miss how beautiful Sacred Heart Chapel and Moye Rotunda look.

*Please note: Those that have signed up prior to today, the first tentative rehearsal that was originally scheduled for Friday, Dec. 1 has been changed to Thursday, Nov. 30.

Time to prepare payment plan for spring semester

It’s Nov. 20. Have you registered and made your payment plan for the spring semester?

Contact the Student Business Office for assistance with setting up a payment plan and Get it Done by Dec. 1. Students only need to set up a payment plan at this point. The first payment is not due until Jan. 2, 2024, unless you enroll in a five-payment plan option in which case the first payment is due Dec. 2. If you set up a payment plan before Dec. 1, you’ll receive a free t-shirt. T-shirt has to be picked up in the Student Business Office.

Students who complete these steps before leaving campus are able to more easily receive assistance, if needed. For more help:

Cybersecurity fundraiser yields more than $4,000

The OLLU CyberSaints Club held their first-ever Swing Off fundraising event on Nov. 11 at TopGolf and raised $4,800.

The Wannabees finished in first place. Team members included Sam Longoria, Mike Cevera, Tom Mansour, Elias Villegas, Francisco Frade, and Ralisa Bernal.

Longo’s Mojo won second-place. Team members included Jacob Longoria, Abel Longoria, Joel Ponchev, Amy Odanovich, and Jorge Navarrete.

The highest scoring individual was Jacob Longoria, who was sponsored by Dunning Golf. The second highest scoring individual was Andrew “Dahmer” Smith, who was sponsored by Marco Crawford Law.

Participants included the CyberSaints team members, OLLU faculty and administrators, family members, and business owners.

Dr. Friesenhahn publishes five poems in ‘Rundelania’

Jacob Friesenhahn, PhD, Assistant Professor of Religious Studies, published five poems in Issue 14 of Rundelania. Rundelania is published by the Arts and Literature Division of the Central Library in Rochester, New York.

The journal is dedicated to the publication of original poetry and prose. Issue 14 of Rundelania was released in November 2023. A link to Dr. Friesenhahn’s five poems is here: Five poems – RUNDELANIA

Deadline for Marketing project requests is Dec. 1

To ensure all projects for the end of the semester are completed in a timely manner, the last day to submit projects to the Marketing and Communications Office is Friday, Dec. 1. This includes ecards, evites, programs, fliers and any other print or digital items.

Save the date: Retirement party for five professors to be held Dec. 13

A retirement party for five distinguished professors who have devoted “A Century of Service” to OLLU will be held in the Sueltenfuss Library on Dec. 13 at 3 p.m.

The retiring professors are Jane Grovijahn, PhD; Lucinda Juárez, PhD; and Leah Larson, PhD. Sister Margit Nagy, CDP, PhD and James Zeitz, PhD also will be recognized during the celebration. COVID restrictions previously prevented a proper celebration of their retirements.

Light appetizers, cake and drinks will be served.

Thanksgiving holiday payroll information

Due to the Thanksgiving holidays this week, the deadline for supervisors and proxy users to review and approve time is today (Nov. 20) at 10 a.m. This will allow the Payroll Office to complete processing in a timely manner for the Nov. 22 bi-weekly pay day.

Incomplete timesheets, or timesheets not approved by supervisors, will not be processed and will be paid the following biweekly pay cycle. Please be sure to complete all steps in the timesheet submission process and check for email confirmation that your timesheet has been approved by your supervisor.

As a reminder:
Bi-weekly employees will be paid on Wednesday for the pay period Nov. 4- 17.
Bi-weekly employees are also reminded to input their holiday hours for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, if not working those days.
