Softball beats Texas College 57-1 in four-game series

Softball 2The softball team devastated the Texas College Steers this past weekend by a combined score of 57-1 in Red River Athletic Conference play. The Saints won 11-0, 16-0, 16-1 and 14-0 – all in five innings to move to 27-9-1 overall and 10-2 in conference. The Steers drop to 1-23 overall and 0-12 in conference. The Saints remain three games behind league-leader University of the Southwest (17-3/29-11) and two games ahead of third-place Bacone College (10-6/20-24). In fourth place is Langston University (4-12/15-28) followed by Huston-Tillotson University (3-9/6-24) and Texas College. Brittany Stone had the best series of all Saints members. On eight at-bats, she had seven runs, five hits, three doubles, two home runs and seven RBIs. She was followed by Amanda Hinojosa, who had seven runs, four hits, two home runs and seven RBIs. Megan Perez selected as conference softball ‘Player of the Week’

2014MeganPerez-3Megan Perez (JR, Kerrville, Texas) was named Red River Athletic Conference Softball Co-Player of the Week for Feb. 24-March 2. Perez, a junior catcher from Kerrville, Texas, accounted for nine RBIs and four runs scored in a 2-2 week for the Saints. She was 7-for-13 at the plate for the week including a standout performance with three hits, a homer and four RBIs in a 16-4 stomping of Southwestern University (Kan.). Perez homered again and drove in a pair of runs in the second game against SWU. Her line also included three walks and two stolen bases for the week. OLLU now sits at 8-4-1 overall. Softball wins one, and ties second game against Southwestern

MeganPerezhitMegan Perez went 4-for-6 and recorded six RBIs to help the softball team beat Southwestern University 16-4 and tie 7-7 Saturday afternoon. The second game was suspended due to darkness after nine innings. The Saints are now 8-4-1 on the season, while NCAA Division III Southwestern moves to 3-8-1. In the first game, Elizabeth Rodriguez went 4-for-4 with three runs, two RBIs and one double. Megan Perez went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBIs, a double and a homerun. Larissa Gutierrez went 3-for-3 with one run and two RBIs. Megan Martinez, Ashley Perez and Maegan Ramirez each had a double, while Amanda Hinojosa had one homerun. Arocha pitched four innings allowing one hit, while striking out five and walking one. Hinojosa pitched one inning allowing three hits and four runs while walking three and striking out one. In the second game, Brittany Stone went 2-for-5 with one RBI. Ashley Perez went 2-for-5 with one run. Megan Perez went 1-for-2 with two RBIs, one run and a homerun. Hinojosa went 3-for-4 with one RBI and one double. Ramirez had one homerun. Arocha and Ramirez each went four innings. Ramirez allowed seven hits, four runs, while walking seven and striking out two. Arocha allowed five hits, three runs, while walking three and striking out two. The Saints will return home to host Calumet College of St. Joseph on Tuesday. Softball wins one of two against NAIA No. 15-ranked Houston-Victoria

SB2-24-1The softball team shut-out the No. 15 NAIA team University of Houston-Victoria 3-0 and then came back to lose 1-9 to finish out the nonconference doubleheader on Saturday. The Saints are 6-3 overall, while the Jaguars are now 4-4. Saints’ pitcher Katrisha Arocha kept the Jaguars to five hits while striking out seven and walking four on 26 at-bats. Amanda Hinojosa led the team in hits with two including one double and two RBIs. Ashley Perez, Megan Perez and Victoria Balderas each had one hit. In the second game, Hinojosa once again led the team in hitting with two. Balderas had the only other hit for the Saints. The team will play on Tuesday in Kerrville against Schreiner University. Softball holds inaugural Winter Camp on Saturday

The Saints softball team held its first-ever Winter Camp on Saturday at the softball field. Fewer than 10 registered, but more than 20 walked up for the camp that took place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The youngsters received lessons on pitching, hitting and fielding from members of the team.
