Spring 2015 TEACH session for teacher education students

There will be a TEACH information session on Wednesday from 12:30-1:30pm in Moye Hall, Room 309. The information session is open to all students who are interested in teacher education. It is mandatory for students who will apply for the teacher education program for fall 2015 and for students who are entering block courses.

Graduate Fellowship opportunity available for OLLU students

The Kenneth H. Ashwork Fellowship Program has scholarships that are available for graduate students who are pursuing a master’s degree in public affairs, public service or public administration.

Each student applying for the scholarship must be enrolled in a graduate program in public affairs, public service or public administration, be a Texas resident and intend to work in Texas after completing their graduate studies.

Students invited to ‘OLLU Fights Back Against Violence’

OLLU students are invited to attend “OLLU Fights Back Against Violence” on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in Providence Hall, West Social Room. The seminar will teach students the basics of personal safety and self-defense in a fun and “edu-taining” format that blends straight talk and comedy.

This event is sponsored by HALO and the Center for Women in Church and Society.

American Advertising Federation scholarship available for OLLU students

The American Advertising Federation (AAF) San Antonio has scholarships available for students pursuing a degree in advertising or a related marketing/communications field.

Each student applying for the scholarship must be enrolled as an undergraduate student, have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours and have at least a 2.5 overall GPA.

Lake Effect – A Cappella Group tryouts this week

Lake Effect, OLLU’s collegiate a cappella group is holding tryouts on Thursday from noon-1:30 p.m. in Fine Arts Building, Room 200.

Students who like singing pop and jazz, or want to join a group like those in the film “Pitch Perfect” are encouraged to try out.

During the audition, those trying out will be able to display their vocal range, sing a part of their favorite pop or jazz song (keep it clean), and read a part of a song with the group.

All voice parts welcome, but the group is especially seeking baritone and bass II.

Deadline to submit student health insurance waiver is Jan. 16

The deadline for students to submit a health insurance waiver for spring 2015 is Jan. 16.

The waiver can be completed online by logging in to the myOLLU Portal (found in the “Current Students” link at the top of the homepage on the university website) and completing the form under “Links to Forms.” After the waiver is completed and submitted, a confirmation email will be sent to the email on file.

Per Our Lady of the Lake University policy, International Students are not allowed to waive coverage. Students who submitted a waiver for fall 2014 do not need to submit a new waiver.

Students who are enrolled in less than seven semester hours or who are taking 100 percent online classes do not need to complete a waiver.

Scholarships for students available

The Charles, Lela and Mary Slough Foundation Scholarship was established to help needy Texas students attend college. In an agreement with Bank of America, Midland College reviews and recommends the scholarships for Texas residents entering or enrolled in any college or university in the United States. The Slough Scholarship awards up to $5,000 per year ($2,500 per fall and spring semesters) for a total of five years or the completion of a bachelor’s degree, or a total accumulation of 136 semester hours or 36 credits, whichever comes first. OLLU Student wins scholarship

The South Texas Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (STC-ACHE) awarded Allison Winney a $1,000 scholarship. The scholarship award is based on academic achievements, professional society service activities, community outreach activities, a personal statement, and letters of reference.
