The men’s basketball team played a great game to close out its regular season, but LSU-Shreveport pushed through to win 88-84. The Saints finish with a 14-4 Red River Athletic Conference record and 20-10 overall, while the Pilots move to 16-2 in conference and 21-7 overall. The Pilots are the conference regular season champions and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament that begins next week. The Saints will be the No. 3 seed, and they will host No. 6 Bacone (8-10/12-18) on Wednesday, March 5. No. 5 Langston University (9-9/11-15) will host No. 4 Wiley (13-5/22-6). The winner of the lowest remaining seed will play LSU-Shreveport on March 7, while No. 2 University of St. Thomas will play the highest remaining seed. The championship game will take place on March 8 at 4:30 p.m. Both Friday and Saturday games will take place at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas. All Saints’ game will be live streamed. The Pilots shot 50 percent from the field, 44 percent from 3-point range and 75 percent from the free-throw line. Softball wins one, and ties second game against Southwestern
Megan Perez went 4-for-6 and recorded six RBIs to help the softball team beat Southwestern University 16-4 and tie 7-7 Saturday afternoon. The second game was suspended due to darkness after nine innings. The Saints are now 8-4-1 on the season, while NCAA Division III Southwestern moves to 3-8-1. In the first game, Elizabeth Rodriguez went 4-for-4 with three runs, two RBIs and one double. Megan Perez went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBIs, a double and a homerun. Larissa Gutierrez went 3-for-3 with one run and two RBIs. Megan Martinez, Ashley Perez and Maegan Ramirez each had a double, while Amanda Hinojosa had one homerun. Arocha pitched four innings allowing one hit, while striking out five and walking one. Hinojosa pitched one inning allowing three hits and four runs while walking three and striking out one. In the second game, Brittany Stone went 2-for-5 with one RBI. Ashley Perez went 2-for-5 with one run. Megan Perez went 1-for-2 with two RBIs, one run and a homerun. Hinojosa went 3-for-4 with one RBI and one double. Ramirez had one homerun. Arocha and Ramirez each went four innings. Ramirez allowed seven hits, four runs, while walking seven and striking out two. MAUC seeking nominations for ‘Spirit of Education Award’
The Mexican American Unity Council (MAUC) is seeking nominations for recipients of the 2014 Spirit of Education Award, which recognizes an individual or organization who has advanced the cause of education in San Antonio.
MAUC has presented the Spirit of Education Award annually since 2009. Previous honorees are David and Cindy Marquez, the Intercultural Development and Research Association, the Harvey E. Najim Family Foundation, Project Stay Inc. and Manuel P. Berriozábal, PhD.
Nominations should be submitted in the form of a letter, including brief background on the person or organization nominated. All submissions should be sent via email to Debra Hernandez by Friday, March 21 at dhernandez@mauc.org. The award will be presented during the MAUC Spirit of Education Awards luncheon on June 21.
OLLU’s Fiesta Medal unveiling set for Thursday
The OLLU Best of the West 2014 Fiesta® Medal will be unveiled on Thursday at 12:15 p.m. in front of Moye Hall.
After the unveiling, medals will be available for a suggested donation of $3 each – one per person (while supplies last) in front of Moye Hall until 1:30 p.m. Additional medals will be $6 each.
After 1:30 p.m., medals will be available until 5 p.m. in the Alumni Office for the suggested $3 donation – one per person (while supplies last). Additional medals will be $6 each. T-shirts will be on sale for $10 and pre-sale tickets for Best of the West will be available for $5 during the event.
Beginning Friday, medals will be available for $6 in the Alumni Office or $8 at the Fiesta® Store located on Broadway.

System downtime scheduled for Thursday
The University’s enterprise resource planning system, Colleague, will be unavailable beginning at noon Thursday. This scheduled downtime is necessary to replace aging equipment.
During the downtime, the following systems will be unavailable:
- Colleague
- WebAdvisor
- Retention Alert
- Informer ad hoc reporting tool
- myOLLU Portal (includes student e-commerce)
The following systems will be available during this scheduled maintenance:
- Lake Online (a temporary page will be placed on the myOLLU Portal link with the direct links to both Lake Online applications -old and new)
- Recruiter software will be available, but exports to Colleague will not be possible.
- ImageNow will be available for viewing, but linking or searches requiring a connection to Colleague will not be available.
- University email (a temporary page will be placed on the myOLLU Portal link with the direct link)

As a result of the downtime, the Registrar’s Office, Student Business Office and the Financial Aid Office will be closed from noon-5 p.m.

FREEDOM-U: Student Anti-Trafficking Movement
The Center for Women in Church and Society are hosting, “FREEDOM-U: Student Anti-Trafficking Movement,” Thursday from 6-7:30 p.m. in Chapel Auditorium.
The event will engage University students in the movement to end the trafficking of children and young people in the United States. Participants in this event will gain the knowledge, skills and tools needed to become advocates for those who are at the highest risk of being lured into the world of human trafficking. They will also become aware of the immediate opportunities to become involved in the movement to end human trafficking.

Softball wins one of two against NAIA No. 15-ranked Houston-Victoria
The softball team shut-out the No. 15 NAIA team University of Houston-Victoria 3-0 and then came back to lose 1-9 to finish out the nonconference doubleheader on Saturday. The Saints are 6-3 overall, while the Jaguars are now 4-4. Saints’ pitcher Katrisha Arocha kept the Jaguars to five hits while striking out seven and walking four on 26 at-bats. Amanda Hinojosa led the team in hits with two including one double and two RBIs. Ashley Perez, Megan Perez and Victoria Balderas each had one hit. In the second game, Hinojosa once again led the team in hitting with two. Balderas had the only other hit for the Saints. The team will play on Tuesday in Kerrville against Schreiner University. Jonathan Yanez places sixth in Austin Half-Marathon
OLLU cross-country runner Jonathan Yanez ran the Austin Half-Marathon on Feb. 16 and he finished in sixth place overall. Yanez ran the marathon in attempt to qualify for the NAIA Marathon that is hosted at the NAIA Track Meet in May. Yanez hit a “B” Standard for qualifying for the marathon. His sixth place finish was among 3,944 runners from all over the world. Yanez’s time of 1:12:57.00 ranks 24th in the entire NAIA for the half marathon. He is the first individual at OLLU to hit a qualifying standard for any event at the NAIA Track Meet. Read full story online.
